John S. Bradley
Penrose - John S. Bradley, 87, of Penrose, NC, passed away Friday, August 5, 2011 at Transylvania Regional Hospital where he had been surrounded by his loving family and friends.
A native of Transylvania County, he was a son of the late Norah Carolyn Rogers Bradley. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Noah Bradley. He was a WWII veteran of the Marines serving in the South Pacific, wounded on Okinawa and received a Purple Heart. He worked at Ecusta/Olin in security retiring in 1983.
Mr. Bradley was a member of Little River Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of Deacons and a Sunday school teacher for young couple's class for many years. He was elected Deacon Emeritus in 2005. He served as a member of the Little River Baptist Church Cemetery Committee. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid beagler.
Mr. Bradley is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Katherine Merrill Bradley; a son, Mike Bradley and wife Claudia of Little River, NC; a daughter, Sandy Mundell and husband Lee of New Orleans, LA; four grandchildren: Bradley Mundell, Isaac Bradley, Jess Bradley, Addison Harbin and husband Ben. Numerous nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law also survive.
A Memorial service will be held at 4:00PM Sunday, August 7, 2011 at Little River Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Farmer officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 PM- 3:45 PM at the church. Inurnment will be a later date.
