John Alney Cox, Jr., 90, of Balsam Grove, passed away January 20, 2018, at Transylvania Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late John Alney Cox and Bessie Bell Pearson Cox. He was also preceded in death by his wife Deltheia Cox, three brothers William, Marvin, and Carl Cox and four sisters Marie Harter, Barbara Turcott, Mary Ann Heath and Eva Mae Bradley.
Mr Cox was veteran of the US Marines and served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a logger for many years in Transylvania County and he retired from Montieth's Garage as a mechanic. He loved western movies and collected John Wayne magazines.
He is survived by one brother Ray Cox and wife Irene of Montana, two sisters Janice Cox of Lake Moses, WA and Linda Washburn of Lake Moses, WA two granddaughters Christina Andrews and Crystal Y. Green both of Balsam Grove, NC, friends Naomi Green and Johnny Green both of Balsam Grove, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for John Cox, Jr. will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Buster McCall officiating.
Burial will follow at Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
