John C. Davis of Brevard, NC passed away on May 12, 2022 at age 87. A native of Somers, Connecticut, he was the son of the late George W. and Dorothy C. Davis. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two previous wives – Carolyn Harvey Davis and Margaret Penoyer Davis.
John graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management and a Second Lieutenant commission into the U.S. Army. He served his country as an instructor in the officer training program in the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps Headuarters in Aberdeen, MD. John’s Career spanned 41 years with the DuPont de Nemours Company where he participated in the development and marketing of DuPont’s line of engineering plastics materials. He progressed through a series of Marketing and Sales Management positions at locations in Delaware, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan and Taiwan, China.
He retired to Brevard and was able to pursue his interests in hiking, personal development and distance running.
John was well known in Brevard. As a runner he participated in local 5K’s, various Disney events, Team in Training with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Army Ten-Miler in Washington, D.C. He ran in the local Senior games, the State games and qualified for the National Senior Games three times. John was a member of the United Methodist Church, a Stephens Minister and was a member of Masonic Ionic #110 Lodge.
John loved his family and looked forward to planning the annual Davis Family Reunion. He will be remembered for his kindness, caring, optimism and enthusiasm for life. John spoke often of joy and lived his life purposefully and joyfully.
His loving survivors include his wife of 13 years, Betty W. Davis; his children: Lynn Steele (Gene), Susan Geer (Paul), and George Davis (Kristin); his step-children: Cheri Ratz (Rob), Michelle Penoyer, Paul Penoyer (Jackie), Beth Hogan, Kay Jones (Chuck), Karen Tino (Bill) and Kimberly Nash; grandchildren: Andrew Steele, Matthew Steele, Bethany Scardaville (Rick), Rachel Carley (Josh), Jonathon Geer (Hannah), Katie Geer, Ben Geer, Grayson Davis, Braydon Davis and Rylan Davis 5 great-grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service to honor John Davis will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Brevard First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Holder officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
The family would like to thank the staff at Tore’s Home for the excellent care he received there. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Brevard First United Methodist Church.
