John Joseph Farash, known as "Jack" to his friends and family passed away on June 6, 2016, at the age of 86. He died peacefully at Tore's Home #2 after a long period of declining health.
Originally from Port Washington, New York he moved to Ocean Springs, Mississippi to be close to his grandchildren. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, he and his wife relocated to Brevard, NC, again to be close to his grandchildren and avoid future hurricanes.
Jack was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a gifted generator mechanic and serviced the generators in the hospitals, zoos, Long Island mansions, green houses and tug boats. He was a man of simple tastes and loved tinkering with short wave radios, his family and God.
He is survived by his wife, Irene of Brevard, North Carolina, daughter, Ann and son-in-law Paul Onnink of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, son, John and daughter-in-law Joanne Farash of Sand Lake, New York and for grandchildren; Ben and Carly Onnink and Mikayla and John Farash and his brother, Arthur Farash of Issaquah, Washington.
A funeral service for Jack will held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in the Chapel of Moore-Blanchard Funerals & Cremations with Father Shawn O'Neal officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM-11:00AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory with Military graveside honors to be conducted by the Honor Guard of Transylvania County.
