Frank John Guest died on December 29, 2012 at Tore's Home #2. Frank was born June 20, 1923 in West Chester, PA. He grew up in Chadds Ford, PA until World War II, when he was assigned to the 379th Bombardment Group at Kimbolton, England. He flew 36 missions as an Army Air Corps B-17 navigator. He married the love of his life, Doris Leath Moseley on February 2, 1946, in Houston, TX. In June, 1949, he graduated from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Hamilton Watch Company between 1949 and 1951. From 1951 until his retirement in 1985, he worked for the E. I. DuPont Co. His career included postings to Wilmington, DE, Parlin, NJ and the Photo Products Plant in Cedar Mountain, NC. He always said he never worked a day in his life because DuPont paid him to play with machinery. After retirement, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and helped to build 28 houses in Transylvania County. He also tutored people of all ages in mathematics. He built an HO gauge train layout in his basement, which he was pleased to share with all who had an interest. Some of his trains are at the Transylvania Heritage Museum. It would have pleased him greatly to have others enjoy his trains. Frank and Doris traveled the world over, but they were always happiest in Transylvania County.
Frank was predeceased by his wife, Doris, his parents, Herbert William and Mae Benge Guest and his only brother, Herbert William Guest, Jr. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Louise "Marlu" Jones of Palm Springs, FL and Joanne Elizabeth "Beth" Johnson, of Maggie Valley, two grandsons, Matthew Allen Jones of Middletown, DE and Zachary Ahrens Galloway of Eugene, OR, a granddaughter-in-law, Ellen Meyi-Galloway, and four great grandchildren, Clove Cook, Gus Jones, Ryleigh Jones, and Vivian Elizabeth Galloway.
In accordance with Frank's wishes there will be no formal services. The family will be at home from 12-5 PM, on Saturday, January 5, 2013 and will welcome all friends and their remembrances of Frank.
