John Richard Gustafson, 68, of Brevard, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022. A native of Brevard, he was the son of Richard Gustafson and the late Laura Clark Gustafson.
John loved being with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a self-proclaimed “food-aholic,” and always enjoyed a good craft beer with good friends. He never met a stranger and went out of his way to help others whenever he could.
He was that rare creature: a native of Brevard. He loved the mountains and enjoyed hiking and camping in his younger years, recalling many fond memories of camping trips as a Boy Scout; later camping trips with his family, friends, and church groups.
He was a man of faith and always tried to do the right thing. He will be greatly missed by his family and multitude of friends. Many considered him their best friend.
He had a phenomenal work ethic and taught his children by example to do the same. He mentored many young people over the years by coaching youth sports. Always in high spirits, he never complained, despite his own problems, circumstances, or suffering.
His loving survivors include his father, Richard Gustafson; his loving wife, Sandy Gustafson; their children Sean Patrick Gustafson (Sydney) and Amy Alexandra Gustafson; grandchildren Arthur Gustafson, Avery Gustafson, Darion Avery and Israel Avery; his brother Thomas Gustafson (Cathy); brother-in-law Terry Kearney and sister-in-law Lori Kearney; and several nieces and nephews.
Service arrangements will be announced at a later date.
