John R. Hernandez, 92, died Sunday, September 11, 2011 at his residence.

He was born in Huntington, NY to the late John and Ida Parker Hernandez. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann.

Mr. Hernandez graduated from Miami University and moved to Brevard in 1960. He was the arranger for the Drum and Bugle Corps and taught music for many years. He was active in many of the Brevard Little Theatre productions. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Kiwanis Club. He loved to entertain with jokes and stories.

John is survived by his daughter, Alison Stone of Piedmont, CA; his son, David Stone of Oakland, CA; two grandchildren of San Francisco, CA and his closest friend and companion, his dog, Charlie.

A Military Graveside Service conducted by the Honor Guard for Transylvania Veterans will be held on Friday, September 16, 2011 at 3pm at Pisgah Gardens.
