John William Holm
John William Holm, 91, passed away suddenly on Friday May 18, 2012.
He was a son of Johan August Holm and Allida Elisabet Wikstrom Holm, born on March 21, 1921in Boston Mass. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brevard for many years where he served in many capacities including mission work. He was also an active member of Brevard Rotary Club since 1975, and a member of the Boston, MA Masonic Lodge.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, overseas travel, golfing, missionary work and maintaining his beloved home.
He graduated with honors from Northeastern University in 1943 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Immediately after graduating he entered the U S Navy, serving his country in the South Pacific during World War II and retiring from the Naval Reserves with the rank of Lt. Commander in 1958.
In 1946, he began his 37 year career with the General Electric Co. He rose to management positions, managing manufacturing plants in Argentina, Maryland and Singapore.
While living in Argentina he met his wife of 52 years, Reidunn. Retiring in 1983, he moved to Sequoyah Woods, Brevard.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, John A. Holm of Brevard, NC, Frank H. Holm of Sierra Vista, AZ, Astrid Loveland (Bruce) of Brevard, NC, Ragnvald (Ron)Holm (Monica) of Hudson, NH; his six grandchildren, Eniku, Sasha, Daniel, Erica, John, and Frank.
A Memorial Service will be held 2pm, Friday, May 25, 2012at First United Methodist Church of Brevard with Rev. Mike Jordan and Rev. Kerry Purselle officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Foundation, 325 N. Broad St, Brevard, NC 28712.
