North Carolina

Jon K. Crow died peacefully Saturday, January 14, 2011 at the age of 90 in Greenville, SC surrounded by his beloved wife, Shirley Stixrud Crow, family and friends. Jon was born November 26, 1921, in Birmingham, Alabama to William W. Crow, Sr. and Elizabeth Smith Crow.

He graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham and then graduated from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. He married Flora Louise Worthington, also from Birmingham, in 1948. Jon

planted two churches near Danville, Virginia, before going to the mission field with his wife to Brasil for the Presbyterian Church from 1950 until 1965. Jon loved his work spreading the gospel in Brasil. He and Flora ministered in Recife, Fortaleza, Belem and Imperatriz, Brasil. They loved the work and were well loved by all they met. In 1964, at the height of the civil rights movement, Jon told the Presbyterian General Assembly that "God was Lord of all or not Lord at all." Because of this, he was quoted in Redbook magazine.

Upon returning to the US, Jon taught Old Testament Bible at the Westminster Schools in Atlanta, Georgia until 1975. During this time he also planted and pastored two churches north of Atlanta. After leaving his teaching career, Jon returned to pastoring. First, Jon served as senior pastor at Avondale Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama, then as associate pastor at Casa Linda Presbyterian Church of Dallas, Texas. During this time, Jon returned to Brasil several times

with Evangelism Explosion.

Flora died in Dallas in 1984, after 36 years of marriage. In the same year in Atlanta, Jon married Shirley Stixrud, a widow who had served as a missionary to the Congo for 20 years with her husband, Bing Stixrud. Jon and Shirley retired to a home in Rosman, NC near Ridgehaven Presbyterian church campgrounds. Both were active in their local church, Grace Covenant Church in Brevard, NC and traveled extensively throughout the US and Canada. Jon loved the Lord and

served Him faithfully all his life. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."

Jon is survived by his four children, Libby Dayani and her husband John of Brentwood, TN; David Crow and his wife, Sherrie of Stone Mountain, GA; Janet Hodges and her husband George of Birmingham, AL; Susan Petty and her husband John of Stoughton, WI; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Also, he is survived by his older sister, Evelyn Crow Watkins of Montgomery, Alabama and older brother, William W. Crow, Jr. and his wife, Kathryn Warren Crow of Birmingham. Alabama.
