Brevard -
Joseph J. Cronauer, 91, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Tores Home in Brevard.
He was born on October 30, 1920 in Wilkes - Barre, PA to the late Joseph Anthony and Christina Kress Cronauer. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Arline Searfross Cronauer.
He served in the Navy as a welder and diver during WWII. He was a lifetime member of the Carpenters and Joiners, Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union. He fought forest fires, helped build the San Diego Zoo, survived lighting strikes, car crashes and falls from trees. He was a resident of Belleville, NJ for four decades before retiring in NC in 1995.
Joseph is survived by his daughters; Gail Cronauer of Dallas, TX, Patricia Cronauer of Brevard, NC, Cynthia Cray and husband Alan of Cream Ridge, MA and Sandra Mitra and husband Sati of Somerset, NJ; grandchildren, Salvatore Gagliardi and wife Karen, Adam Hougland and husband Ashley Russell, Noah Hougland and wife Kelly, and Sima Mitra; one great grandchild, William Gagliardi.
