Joseph Lever
Brevard - Joseph Lever, 84, of Connestee Falls, NC entered into Eternal Life on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 after a period of declining heath.
Born July 20, 1927 in Newark, NJ, he was the son of the late John Lever and Ellen Young. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ursula and a daughter, Patricia, both of Connestee Falls, NC plus his beloved golden retriever, Shana.
He served in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. Afterwards, he obtained a technical degree in Lithography from Voorhees Technical Institute of Lithography in New York City and worked for American Can Company in NJ and Philadelphia for 30 years as a Lithographer Supervisor, prior to retiring. During his time at American Can he received numerous awards for their campaign against inflation. Most notable was a plan he implemented that saved the company 70 million nationwide. After retirement, he worked several years as a lithographer supply consultant for Chein Industries.
He was a Past Master of St. John's Masonic Lodge and had been the President of the Lake Parsippany Property Owners Association in NJ and attended the Davidson River Presbyterian Church in Brevard.
His many interests included hunting, fishing, wood working, coin collecting, gardening, birds and the occasional trip to Harrah's.
A Memorial service will be held Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Thompson officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard for Veterans of Transylvania County and Dunn's Rock Masonic Lodge. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
