Brevard - Julia F. Whitney, 66, died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.

A native of Forest Hills, NY, she was the daughter of the late Ercil R. and Ebba Eliason Hevner.

Prior to retiring here in 1992, the Whitney's returned to the mountains of western North Carolina which they loved and have resided here ever since. Mrs. Whitney had been employed as a supervisor with National Geographic Society.

Surviving are her husband, Ray Whitney; sons, Michael Whitney of St. Louis, MO, and Stephen Whitney of Frederick, MD; grandchildren, Diana and Stephanie Whitney.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts or to the Salvation Army.
