June Canfield

August 17, 1924 — March 19, 2014

Bloomington, Indiana

June Canfield, 89, was called to be with her Lord and Savior in eternity on March 19, 2014. Born June Cornel DeBoor on August 17, 1924 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she graduated second in her class at Walnut Hills High School there, and then Magna Cum Laude from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio, marrying John Clair Canfield on December 22, 1946. A homemaker by profession, she also taught mathematics, English, Church history, and other subjects at African Bible College in Lilongwe, Malawi in the early years of the 21st century.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Neal and Bertha DeBoor of Cincinnati, Ohio, and her sister, Joyce Boyer of Lancaster, Ohio. Survivors include her husband, John Canfield, four children and their spouses: David and Carole Canfield of Bloomington, IN; Sharon and Kenneth Howell of Champaign, IL; Stephen and Cindy Canfield of Sevierville; TN, and Dala and Larry Newsome of Tampa, FL. Her grandchildren include Rebekah Bambenek, Colin Howell, Rachel Howell, Daniel Canfield, Alison Martin, Jonathan Martin and Jennifer Barr, and she is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and their progeny.
A member of Evangelical Community Church, June was the quintessential Proverbs 31 woman, beloved by all who knew her, and was a constant source of joy to her entire family and circle of friends, who would look forward eagerly to her annual Christmas newsletters. She was the faithful helpmeet of her husband John, whom she accompanied on numerous short-term missions trips to Colorado, Latin America, Russia, Ukraine and Malawi. Additionally, she was instrumental in helping him found the Bloomington Pops Orchestra, and was also the librettist of The Proclamation, a music drama jointly composed by her husband, and oldest son David. A violinist, June was in her younger days a member of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Izler Solomon, and played in numerous orchestras subsequent to that. She will be sorely missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

A service giving testimony to June's faith in Christ will be held at Day Funeral Home, 4150 E. 3rd St., Bloomington, Indiana at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2014 with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Balsam Grove, North Carolina.
