June Eileen Stacy, 77, was thrilled to leave her cancer-ridden body and go to Heaven on December 17, 2023. Born to R. Gilbert Heebner and M. June Heebner in West Chester, PA on November 16, 1947, June died at her Connestee Falls home with family and pets by her side.
She grew up in the country town of Thornton, outside of Philadelphia, PA. Educated at West Chester High School and West Chester State College, she worked in Boston, MA, where she met Bob Stacy, her husband of 57 years. Bob was a soldier at Fort Devens, MA.
In addition to Bob, June leaves behind three daughters: Jannette Stacy, Christine Deffendall, and Erin Ray, and Ten grandchildren: Christin Burrows, Kimiko Corkery, Kelissa Corkery, Robert Deffendall, Timothy Deffendall, Kayleigh Deffendall, Harlan Deffendall, Madeline Deffendall, Matthew Ray, and Mary Ray.
June accompanied Bob to many Army posts and Army Reserve units for nearly 30 years. She loved Army life and lived it to the fullest. Her mother had moved to Western North Carolina in 1988 while Bob and June were at Carlisle Barracks, PA. When June came up to Connestee Falls to help her mother move in, she called Bob and said, “You’re not going to believe this place.” It was clear this was their destination after Army retirement.
She worked in banks in Granite City, IL; Fort Leavenworth, KS; Norfolk, VA; and Falls Church, VA. The bank headquartered in Falls Church gave June the opportunity to develop an on-call substitute teller program for their many branches in Northern VA and Washington D.C. where she recruited, trained, scheduled, and supervised her team for four years before moving to North Carolina. In Brevard, she worked for Ecusta Credit Union before becoming Assistant Director of the Heart of Brevard.
June became a Jesus follower in 1971 in Gainesville, FL. She raised her children in the Word of God, studied the Bible with friends, ran a Christian bookstore, and was a full participant with Bob in his work as Chaplain of Faith Fellowship Church at Ardenwoods Retirement Community. More than a pastor’s wife, June was loved for her ministry in her own right.
There will be a private memorial service for the two Faith Fellowship congregations at Ardenwoods soon after Christmas. The community Celebration of Life event will be in Late February with an announcement in the Transylvania Times.
Family support and cremations services are being lovingly provided by Rev. Paul Smith through Moore-Blanchard Funeral Home in Brevard.
