Brevard - Kathy Bartt died June 10, 2009 after a five year battle with cancer.
Born Kathleen Hofbauer in Elmira, NY, she attended D'Youville college in Buffalo, NY graduating with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She later obtained a masters in nursing from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. Working as a nurse, nursing supervisor, and hospital administrator, she retired as a vice-president from St. Joseph Hospital in Pontiac, MI. She then began a second career as Associate Dean of the School of Nursing at University of Detroit Mercy.
After moving to Brevard, NC in 2001, she and her husband Dennis enjoyed their favorite activities of birding, gardening, and golf; and the beauty and serenity of the North Carolina mountains. Kathy was active in the Brevard community volunteering at SAFE and for the AAUW book sale, and in the Connestee Falls Community with several groups and served a term on the Connestee Falls Property Owners Board of Directors.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Dennis; sisters, Marjorie Pastalaniec of Houston, TX and Nancy Phillips of Kingston, PA; brothers, Denis Hofbauer of Elmira, NY, Michael Hofbauer of Albion, NY and Phil Hofbauer of Lander, WY.
A memorial service will be held at Pretty Place, Camp Greenville, at 11:30 AM, Wednesday, June 17, 2009.
