Kathleen (Kathi) Gillespie Bayne, 54, of Brevard passed peacefully Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Transylvania Regional Hospital after an almost eight year battle to live. The daughter of Barbara Cloer of Mountain City, Georgia and the late Don Gillespie, she is survived by her adoring husband, Nick, loving daughter, Hannah, devoted and beloved brother, Danny Gillespie, of Franklin, NC and the many relatives and friends who so graciously touched her life. She is preceded in death by her brother, Ronnie Gillespie, whom she loved dearly. Kathi, a horticulturalist and interiorscape designer, founded Botanical Environments, Inc. headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia in 1991, serving as President until her passing.
In her last weeks, having fought so courageously for so long, she shared a very special blessing to be shared with family and friends. "Life is so fleeting that it is sometimes easy to allow our destinies to become engulfed by daily life and careers without recognizing that life will end one day. We don't know when that one day will be our last. Let everyone you love know how special they are and how much you care about them. Remember you reap what you plant. What you put into the lives of others does come back into your own. For me, in reflection of life, it is all so clear my destiny was to be Nick's wife and Hannah's mommy, all else seems to pale in perspective. I can only wish for those family and friends I love so dearly, as well as those I've never met, that you each will be blessed to realize your personal destiny - your dream, your purpose, the life you were truly intended to live - cherish it, live it, and enjoy it now. I was so lucky to have found mine. May you each always know the grace of heart that holds love's infinity."
Kathi's eight year battle for life with courage, love, and kindness has taught all with whom she touched a very special example on living life and finding happiness. To meet Kathi was to love her. Words cannot describe the great earthly void created by her passing, but her strength and spirit remain with us.
