Kathleen Griffin Coker, 84, of Brevard, North Carolina passed away quietly in her sleep on Mon-day, January 19. She was surrounded by her loving children and dear friend Jerry Vincent.
Kathleen was born in Union, Mississippi, and was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Dale Coker. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Dale Coker, Jr (Sabina Johns) of White Rock, New Mexico; son, Thomas David Coker (Mark Campbell) of Charlotte, North Carolina; and daughter, Kim Elisabeth Kellogg (David) of Greenwood Village, Colorado. She also leaves be-hind to cherish her memories, her grandchildren, Lukas Coker, Zakary Coker, Connor Kellogg, Haley Kellogg, Katie Kellogg, and her sisters-in-law Beatrice Kimbrough, and Linda Purviance (Gus) who were more like true sisters to her, and several nieces and nephews.
Kathleen was a member of Glady Branch Baptist Church, and was loved by many in Brevard and around the country. She lived life to the fullest and really enjoyed her time living abroad and raising her family in Antigua, British West Indies, and traveling throughout the world and the Unit-ed States. She dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was also a devoted sports fan, especially enjoying the Brevard Blue Devils and her UNC Tarheels basketball and Carolinas Panthers football.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the incredible staff at The Oaks - Brevard and Transylvania Regional Hospital for taking wonderful care of Kathleen.
A special celebration of life gathering is planned for Saturday, February 7th from 2:30 - 4:30 PM at Jaime's Creole Brasserie on Main Street in downtown Brevard. The family hopes that friends will stop by and enjoy sharing memories of Kathleen as well as share in our appreciation of your friendship with her. She loved you all very much, and we are eternally grateful that you shared your lives with her.
A private graveside interment will be conducted later in Jackson, Mississippi, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Kenneth.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to The Transylvania County Humane Society, PO Box 1288, Pisgah Forest, NC 28768. Kathleen loved her "grand dogs and grand cats" and would have appreciated the honor of your donation.
