Kimberly Leigh Chamberlain passed away suddenly in Brevard on November 22, 2021. She was preceded in death by her Uncle Robbie and Aunt Francie. She leaves behind her mother, Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Bennett, of Brevard; two sisters: Melissa (Kevin) Dellinger of Hickory, NC and Amy (Jason) Arias of Vass, NC as well as honorary sister, Laura Ward; uncles: James (Ellie) Bennett of Arlington, VA , and Thomas (Susan) Bennett of Scottsville, VA,; aunts: Carol Bennett Mason, of Butler, AL, Sandra (CD) Barnett, Butler, AL, Terrie (Jim) Long, Gibsonville, NC, Nancy (James) Whaley, Salisbury, NC, Martha Baird-Cochran of Flat Rock, NC, and JoAnn (Roger) Hamilton, Brevard; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her room mates, Laura and MIchael.
Kim became a member of First United Methodist of Brevard on March 12, 2011, and was one of the charter members of the Special Friends Sunday school class. Before Covid, she actively participated in Special Olympics, locally and in competitions in Western NC, gathering quite the collection of medals in bocce, bowling, swimming, dressage, and the skills of soccer and basketball.
She looked forward every year to the Night to Shine Prom and loved participating in all Transylvania County activities events for the special needs community.
She volunteered at the Transylvania County Library, Tiger Town Thrift Store, and Bread of Life. A long-time dream was to have a job in the community, and this became reality in March, 2021, when she began working in the kitchen at Transylvania Regional Hospital.
Her favorite meal was popcorn shrimp from Pisgah Fish Camp and a McDonald’s apple pie on the way home. Kim was a natural helper, often offering to help her friends and roommates. When Kim moved back to Transylvania County after an absence of several years, she and Jason Buckner did an impromptu singing of their favorite song, “Where oh where are you tonight…”. She was loved by everyone.
A memorial service for Kimberly Chamberlain will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at First United Methodist Church in Brevard with Rev. Mike Holder officiating.
The family requests that in place of flowers, memorials be made to Transylvania County Special Olympics, P O Box 10063, Greensboro, NC, 27404 or to The Haven, P O Box 25, Brevard, NC 28712.
