Lambert Clayton Poor, known his entire life as “L.C.”, died January 14, 2023. He was named for ancestor Lambert Clayton, a Revolutionary War soldier and early settler of Transylvania County. L. C. was born in Brevard on February 6, 1926.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as a crew chief for a fighter squadron in the Philippines and later in Northern China.
After a long career at Olin Corporation, he enjoyed an even longer retirement that included golf, gardening, walking, hiking, and volunteering. For years he was a member of the “Thursday Crew” at the local Habitat for Humanity chapter. They did great work but became even greater friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Avery Patton Poor, Sr. and Reba Orr Poor, his wife of 70 years Frances Hicks Scruggs Poor, and several siblings. He is survived by a brother George and sister Mary, sons Ron (Teresa) and David (Gay), grandson Jason Brennan (Irene), great granddaughters Molly, Maggie, and Emily, special niece Cindy Miller, and dear family friends Tracey Littleton and Cathy Gary.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Keith Thompson officiating.
The family will receive friends afterwards in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Gillespie-Evergreen Cemetery Association – Maintenance, P.O. Box 1345, Brevard, N.C.
