Dr. Laura Parsons passed away unexpectedly in Northport, AL on May
31, 2015. A native of Transylvania County, she is the daughter of the late Jack and Joan Washburn Parsons.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister Linda.
She is survived by her "Sisters from Other Mothers" Jeanine, Allison and Cathy, special friends Andre, Joel, Rick,
and her Stillman College family.
In High School, Laura decided to pursue a career "as far away as
possible from Math". She earned her M.M. and D.M. in Trumpet
Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and
her B.A. in Music Education at Mars Hill College. Most recently, she
was an Assistant Professor at Stillman College.
Laura never met a stranger. She will be remembered for her kind
heart, infectious laugh, love of practical jokes, and her ability to
instill her love of music to all she met. Please remember, life is
short, live it to the fullest.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Philips Episcopal Church in
Brevard, NC, on Friday, July 17 2015, at 2:00 am. Inurnment will follow at Gillespie Evergreen Cemetery.
All are invited to join us for a Reception/Jam Session that will be held at The Cabin on the Hill,
1260 Everett Road Pisgah Forest on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 6 pm.
Laura's main passions were her music and her pets. In lieu of
flowers, please consider contributions to The Brevard Music Center and
the Transylvania County Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
