Cedar Mountain - Lawrence R. ("Larry") Taylor, 81, passed away at Mission Hospital in Asheville on Monday, December 22, 2008.



Larry was born September 12, 1927 in Chicago, IL to the late Margaret ("Peggy") Taylor Roe and the late Robert Taylor. Larry graduated from Memphis Messick High School in 1945, and from Memphis (State) University with a degree in industrial engineering. He was a WW II Navy veteran, serving in the Operation Crossroads nuclear testing program. Larry was the retired Director of Manufacturing for Holiday Inns, Inc. of Memphis, TN and was a volunteer with Transylvania Habitat for Humanity.



In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Imogene ("Genie") Callis Taylor of Memphis; his brother Kenneth Taylor of Memphis; his sister Peggy ("Pat") Dougherty of Pensacola, Florida; and his step-father, Earnest Roe, of Blytheville, Arkansas.



He is survived by his sons, Lawrence Scott Taylor and wife Dagmar Taylor of Chattanooga; Lee Taylor and wife Beverly Cusick Taylor of Telluride, CO; Casey Taylor and wife Kerri Taylor of Charleston, SC; by his daughter Melissa Taylor Savino and husband Steven Savino of Brevard; by his half-brother Jon Taylor and wife Carolyn of Nashville; by his grandchildren Dawn Taylor Cole, Rene Taylor Hermanson, Ian Taylor, Gillian Taylor, Ting Taylor, and Mabry Taylor; by his great-grandson Dagan Taylor; and by many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his friend and companion of many years, Irene Perkins of Brevard.



A celebration of Larry's life and contributions to others will be held on Saturday, December 27th at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Moore Funeral Home in Brevard with the Rev. Harriett Shands officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any memorial contributions be made to Transylvania Habitat for Humanity or Cedar Mountain Volunteer Fire Department.
