Leota Moore

Leota Owen Moore, 96, of Brevard, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Transylvania Regional Hospital.

A native of Silversteen Community, she was a daughter of the late James Robert Owen and Sylvitha Galloway Owen. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Roy Gene Moore, who passed away in 1990, three brothers; Laury, Olan and LE Owen, and six sisters; Beulah O. Jones, Opal O. Broome, Kanzie O. Anders, Donna Vee O. Callahan, Oleda O. King and Dorothy Bee Owen and one step-daughter; Joretta Moore Taylor.
A member of Macedonia Baptist Church for over 80 years, she enjoyed being with her family and was an excellent seamstress. She loved handwork so much that she made a sweater using raw wool, carding and spinning the thread and then crocheting the sweater. She donated this treasure to the Transylvania County Historical Society Museum.

She is survived by two step-sons; Gerald Moore and wife LaVerne of Quebec and Denton Moore and wife Patricia of Statesville, NC, one brother; James Furman Owen and wife Ann of Brevard, NC, three step-grandchildren, six step-great grandchildren, six step-great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Leota O. Moore will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Owen and Rev. Claude Nicholson officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday, October 26, 2015, at Moore Funeral Home.
