Linda Odette Neumann, 73, of Brevard, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2014. She was born in Waukegan, Illinois on July 13, 1947 and was the daughter of the late Albert Merkle and Cleora Hickman Merle.
When Linda was in the 6th grade, she and her parents moved to Willard, Ohio. There, she met a 7th grade boy named, David C. Neumann in the cafeteria line. They were instant friends remaining so for 60 years. David and Linda were married for 52 years.
Linda attended Ohio Wesleyan University, Colorado College and graduated from State University of Albany, New York.
Linda and David lived in many places and had a full life together. While her husband was in the Army, Linda lived in Oklahoma, Georgia, Colorado, Germany, Maryland and Florida. She was a very active Army wife and was a favorite among the commanders' wives.
After she and David left the Army, Linda was elected to the school board in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. After three years, the Neumann's' moved to St. Lucie County, Florida. There, they operated three Lincoln-Mercury dealerships, with Linda being the dealer in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Later, the Neumann's moved to Brevard, North Carolina. Linda attended summer school at Rutgers University to be more knowledgeable in the area of substance addiction. She then became a family counselor at Bridgeway, an inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility located in Brevard. She quickly worked her way to become the director of the facility. She was active in state organizations and became a sought-after speaker on the subject of substance abuse.
After Bridgeway, Linda concentrated in her husband's law office, The Neumann Law Firm, PLLC and became a paralegal specializing in Estate Planning/Estate Administration until her retirement. She was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church and served on the Vestry.
She was an intelligent, loving and a very active volunteer. Among the organizations she served on the boards of Transylvania Vocational Service, the Board of Visitors for Brevard College and the Transylvania County Foundation.
Linda and David travelled extensively over the past 20 years. They visited all of the countries in Europe, Russia, China, India, Egypt, and many countries in Southeast Asia and Middle East.
Linda is survived by her husband, David C. Neumann, grandchildren, Aaron and Jaclyn Neumann, their mother, Carolyn Foster and her husband, Shane Foster; and her sister-in-law, Ruth Anne Weisenauer.
A memorial service will be held at St. Philip's Episcopal Church on Sunday, December 7th, 2014 at 3:00 pm. There will be a reception following in the Miller Hall.
A private memorial burial will be at St. Paul-in-the-Valley Cemetery in Brevard, North Carolina. Memorial donations may be made to the Transylvania Vocational Services (TVS), 11 Mountain Industrial Drive, Brevard, North Carolina 28712.
