Lois Ann Misenheimer, 94, of Morrisville, NC, formerly Brevard, passed away on June 17, 2024. A native of Umatilla,FL, she was the daughter of Lucy and Jason Orr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, John Misenheimer, and her brother, Jason L. Orr.
At the age of twelve, Lois Ann’s family moved from Florida to Brevard, home of her father’s family. Following graduation from Brevard High School, Lois Ann entered Mission Hospital School of Nursing. She received her Nursing Diploma in 1949 as a Registered Nurse, the youngest student to have done so at that time. Devoted to her profession, Lois Ann enjoyed a long career in nursing working with both Dr. Robert Stricker and with Dr. James H. Sanders, Jr.
She was a longtime member of First Baptist church of Brevard and was actively involved in church life, particularly working the pre-school Sunday school department for many years until her move to Morrisville in 2017 to be near her daughter. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting and made many sweaters for friends and family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a cherished friend to many others. After her move to Morrisville, she became active in her senior community, and participated many outing and enjoyable activities with her friends there.
Lois Ann is survived by her daughter, Martha Adcock (Brad) of Cary, NC, granddaughter, Lauren Adcock, grandson, Brandon Adcock (Erica) and two great grandchildren, Sophia and Thomas Adcock, all of Charlotte, NC, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful for the loving care provided to Lois Ann by the caregivers of Hands of Compassion Angels and the attentive care of the nurses of Transitions Life Care.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 13 at First Baptist Church of Brevard. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until time for the service. Burial will follow at Gillespie-Evergreen Cemetery in Brevard.
Lois Ann was a Mission Belle and her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Mission Belles Nursing Foundation Education Fund at Pisgah Health Foundation.
