Dr. Lowell Eugene Jennings
Brevard - Dr. Lowell Eugene Jennings, 89, of Brevard, NC, died Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Transylvania Regional Hospital.
He was the son of the late Revs. Walter and Miriam Jennings. He was a member of the Brevard Wesleyan Church and attended Indiana Wesleyan University and Indiana School of Medicine.
Dr. Jennings practiced family medicine in Gastonia, NC and later served as a physician for the Veterans Administration. Earlier he worked as medical missionary for the Wesleyan Church in India and Sierra Leone, West Africa. He served the church on Local, District, and General Boards of Administration, and as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Southern Wesleyan University for over 30 years. There he was awarded an honorary Doctorate degree and was priviledged to have the Campus Life Center named in his honor. The Wesleyan denomination distinquished him as the Outstanding Layman of the quadrennium.
Dr. Jennings served in the Army in both World War II and the Korean War. He received four Bronze Stars and several medals of commendation.
Surviving is his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Faith Jennings; two sons, Donald (Lorie) Jennings of Tallahassee, FL, David (Susan) Jennings of Lowell, NC; two daughters, Janene (Eddie)Bryson of Brevard, NC, Ellen (Rick) Belliveau of Highland, MD; eleven grandchildren, Jennifer McCumber and Husband Rob, Jared Jennings and Wife Melissa, Allison Jennings, Holly Jennings, David Jennings II, Nathan Bryson, Scott Bryson and Wife Laura, Michael (Gina), Molly, Andrew and Thomas Belliveau; and one great grandchild, Bram McCumber.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, December 31, 2010 at the Brevard Wesleyan Church with the Revs. Hank Moffitt, Dave Blackburn, Don Milstead and Morris Davis officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A visitation will also be held at the First Wesleyan Church in Gastonia, NC at 1:30 PM on Saturday, January 1, 2010. Burial will be Oakwood Cemetery in Gastonia, NC.
