Luther Robertson

Hendersonville, North Carolina

Luther Frederick "Fred" Robertson, Jr, 89, of Hendersonville, NC passed away August 8, 2016. He was a son of the late Luther Frederick Robertson, Sr and Lucille Smith Robertson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Margaret (Peggy) McArthur.

Fred was born in Spartanburg, SC where he graduated from Spartanburg High School as class president in 1944. He volunteered and joined the U S Navy at 17 years old during WW II. He also graduated from Wofford College with a BS degree. He married his loving wife, Margaret (Peggy) McArthur of Gaffney, SC.
He is survived by his three sons; Joe Robertson and John Robertson, both of Brevard, NC and Bill Robertson (Jill) of Gastonia, NC and one grandson Sean Robertson, of Gastonia, NC and two sisters; Polly Robertson Brown of Albany, Ga. And June Robertson Van Patton, Easley, SC.

Fred worked for Wyeth labs for 30 years. He was instrumental in the development and building of the Gardner Acres swimming pool and tennis courts, he volunteered and worked for Crisis Assistance Ministries in Gastonia. He also delivered meals for Meals on Wheels in Gastonia.

A member of the First Presbyterian Church I Gastonia where he was a Deacon for several years. We pray he is in the comfort and loving embrace of Jesus Christ, forever. Amen.

A Memorial Service for Fred Robertson will be held Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 1621 East Garrison Blvd, Gastonia, NC 28054, with Rev. John H. Stanley officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
