Brevard -

Mabel (Mimi) Souther Herzberg, died peacefully at her home in Brevard, NC on June 20, 2012.

Born August 17, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Belle Blake Rogers and Harry Nathan Blake. She was married to the late Harvey (Benny) Souther for 43 years and the late Bernard (Ben) Herzberg for eight years. She was also preceded in death by her beloved brother, Harry Blake.

She is survived by two daughters; Ruth Osteen and husband, Fred of Brevard, NC and Anne Conn and husband, Van, of  Milton, NY., four grandchildren; Ruth Anne Jones and husband, Orville of Dayton, OH; Lenny Conn and wife Kimberly of Milton, NY; Sam Osteen and wife Lisa of Highlands, NC; and Shawn Fred and husband Chris of Highland Mills, NY.  Nine great-grandchildren; Jason and Casey Jones; Taylor and AnnMarie Osteen; Makenzie and Harrison Conn; and Dylan, Kiley and Carson Fred; one sister-in-law, Margaret Souther of Brevard; one step-daughter, Cora Sita and husband Frank of Milton, NY and several nieces and cousins.  We would like to especially thank Pat Metzger for her wonderful care and friendship to Mother-Mimi.  Mabel had the blessing of two 'blended families' the children and grandchildren of the late Rev. B.N. Rogers of which one son Earl and his wife Elizabeth of

Asheville, NC survives and the children and grandchildren of Ben Herzberg of which one daughter Cora survives.  Mabel (Mimi) lived her entire life in Brevard until her marriage to Ben Herzberg in 1992 when they divided time between their homes in Brevard and Milton, NY.  She was employed as a secretary at the Ecusta Paper-Olin-Gladfelter Corporations for 45 years.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church and last year received the 50-year membership award from Pisgah Chapter 198 Order of the Eastern Star.  She was "Mother" to her daughters; "Mimi" to their husbands, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their friends who 'adopted' her; and "Mabel" to her many friends.  The love she showed to all was immense and unique, and by whichever name you knew her, you were blessed to have had her in your life.  She was loved more than words can express and she will be missed more than words can ever say.

A Graveside Service will be held 2:00PM, Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory with the Rev. Tommy Crocker officiating.
