Maisie H. Talmadge, 87, of Pisgah Forest, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 while surrounded by her loving family. Maisie was born in Pisgah National Forest and was the daughter of the late Fred Julius Holden and the late Aileen Davis Holden. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her brothers Perry Holden and Dan Holden, and her sister Sarah Mahaffey.
Maisie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a 1948 graduate of Brevard High School, and a life-long member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church. She served as the first librarian at the church and she was also a Sunday School teacher and member of the choir. She started the G.A.'s at Turkey Creek and also several other churches. As a member of the WMU she was also very involved in missions. She portrayed Lottie Moon for many years in December and also went on several home mission trips and spent time in Arizona on an Indian reservation. She also went to Poland and to Brazil on foreign mission trips.
Maisie was employed by Dr. J.M. Keeley for over 20 years.
Left to celebrate her life are her loving husband of 69 years, Stephen Talmadge, Sr.; her son Stephen Talmadge, Jr. and wife Julie of Gotha, FL, daughter Pamela Moore and husband Donald of Canton, NC; grandchildren Stephanie Ledford and husband Dwayne of Bakersville, NC, Cory Stanley and wife Sylwia of Savannah, Ga, and Jerusha Johnson and husband Kaleb of Canton, NC, Christina Talmadge and fiancé Steve Bancroft of North Dakota, Stephen Talmadge III and friend Ana Dee Martino of Washington, DC; great-grandchildren Alyson and Grayson Blackwelder, Victor and Scarlett Stanley, Holden and Scout Johnson; step-great-grandchildren Dylan and Faith Ledford.
Funeral Services for Maisie Talmadge will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Turkey Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Kittrell and Rev. Jack Holland officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm to 3:00 pm, prior to the service. Interment will follow at Turkey Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
