Margaret M. "Peggy" Gearing





Pisgah Forest - Margaret M. "Peggy" Gearing passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2012, at the age of 87.  The daughter of Thomas Walsh McDonough and Margaret Wade McDonough, she was a native of Cincinnati, OH. After graduation from Norwood High School, she enlisted in the US Navy, and served honorably for the duration of WWII, being awarded the Victory Medal and American Theatre Ribbon.  She called Western North Carolina her home for the past 39 years.



Predeceased by her husband, William C. Gearing, Jr., she is survived by her four sons, William, Thomas, James, and David, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, sister Vivian Ketterer, brothers Thomas and Edward McDonough, MD, and many additional relatives.



Peggy was active in Transylvania County first as a travel agent, then as a real estate agent and broker, receiving the Brevard Board of Realtors Presidential Award in 1986.  Many people throughout Transylvania County purchased homes with her able assistance.  She was also a faithful member and participant in the family of Sacred Heart Church.



A funeral mass will be said on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Carl DelGiudice officiating.  Interment will follow in the church columbarium.
