Margaret Souther

Margaret Buchko Souther, 101 of Brevard, fondly known as Marge, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the Keever Solace Center in Asheville, NC, following a brief illness.

Marge was born in Ironwood, MI and was an Air Force wife for over 20 years, living in locations ranging from Montgomery, Alabama, to Tokyo, Japan. In the early 1960s, she and her beloved husband, Pete, returned to his native Brevard, NC where they made numerous friends at the DuPont Corporation where they both worked and at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She was predeceased by Pete, her husband of 51 years, and her five siblings.

Funeral arrangements were made by her nieces Bonita Gorsche (Greg) of Hillsboro, OR, Susan Duckett (John) of Charlotte, NC, Teresa Souther Murphy (Patrick) of Rockville, MD, and great-niece Kate Murphy of Rockville, MD. She is survived by numerous other nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

Marge was a gracious hostess, always ready with a tin of homemade pizzelles and the offer of coffee or tea. She enjoyed decorating her home with the wool rugs she hand-braided and the furniture she upholstered. Following her retirement, Marge became an avid quilter and shared not only her beautiful quilts with family and friends, but patiently taught many to sew and bake.

Marge was interred in a private service at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
