Marjorie Beebe Micuda, 86, passed away peacefully on January, 5th, 2015 at the Homestead Hospice Center in Waynesville, NC, with family at her side.
Margie was born in Kalkaska, Michigan on March 31st, 1928 to the late Robert E. Beebe and Inez Albert Beebe. She lived most of her early years in northern Michigan, later moving south to Ypsilanti, where she met the man she would soon marry. Looking back on her life, she often spoke thankfully of a fortune teller who once told her that she would meet a wonderful, dark and handsome man from half-way around the world. So, she said, when she met "Mike" Micuda, a recent immigrant from Romania, she knew immediately that he was "the one." They were married in September of 1952.
Margie and Mike moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan after Mike completed his schooling at University of Michigan and became an architect. They lived there for over 15 years and were active in the arts community. In 1970, they moved to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where they resided until 1989 when they retired in Brevard, NC to spend the remainder of their lives.
Margie dearly loved the North Carolina mountains and the people of Brevard, whom she always felt were exceptionally friendly. In the years prior to her memory loss, she enjoyed being a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church and working in the church resale shop as a volunteer. She was an avid genealogist, and with much pride and determination, she traced her lineage back to John and Priscilla Alden of the Mayflower, qualifying her to join the Waightstill Avery Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), which she felt was a great honor. She was also an active member of the Brevard Garden Club and derived much pleasure out of her activities and associations there.
Margie will be remembered by many as a gracious lady who reveled in her frequent role as hostess and chef, teaming up with her husband to entertain friends of all ages in their home. Her daughter and grandsons remember her as a sweet soul with a beaming smile and contagious laugh whose greatest joy in life was being an enthusiastically supportive mom and grandmother. She was a genuinely kind-hearted person who found her fulfillment in tending to the needs of others. She had a delightful and witty sense of humor, which, in spite of her long illness, never left her. As a dear friend remarked, that quality was essential in her ability to serve so successfully as the "patience and support behind the man."
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Constantin "Mike" Micuda, and her brothers, Albert Beebe and Robert Beebe. She is survived by her daughter, Octavia Micuda Thomas, of Waynesville, NC and her grandsons, Alexander Davis Thomas and Nicholas Constantin Thomas, also of Waynesville, NC and her sister Margaret Beebe Peck, of Kalkaska, MI.
A mass to celebrate her life will be held at 2 PM on Friday, January 9th at St. Philip's Episcopal Church of Brevard, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 256 E Main St, Brevard, NC 28712, Phone:(828) 884-3666 or a charitable organization of choice.
