Evelyn Hutcherson McSwain



Asheville - Martha Evelyn Hutcherson McSwain, 82, died Monday, March 31, 2008 at Pardee Hospital, Hendersonville.

A native of Columbus, NC, she was the daughter of the late John Ransome Hutcherson and Ollie Kate Walker Hutcherson and was the wife of the late William Thomas "Bill" McSwain. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters and one great grandchild.

Evelyn was a graduate of Stearns School, Columbus, where she was the Salutatorian. She retired from Ecusta Corp. and is a member of Grace Baptist Church and the Reynolds Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary.

"Mamaw" was always involved in and enjoyed the activities of her family. She also was an avid NC State and Atlanta Braves fan. She never met a stranger and was loved by everyone.

Surviving are her daughters, Vickey Utter of Asheville, and Sharon Pierson of Hendersonville; son, Tom McSwain and wife Kathy of Sanford, NC; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Fanning officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the services.
