Martha Nolen

Martha Talley Nolen died January 8, 2014 at the age of 77 in Greensboro NC. She was born on May 29, 1936, in Penrose, NC, in Transylvania County. She was the daughter of the late Rhett and Callie Talley. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Jack Talley.

She attended Brevard High School and was a member of Enon Baptist Church. She retired from Brevard College and also worked in the Emergency Room at Transylvania Community Hospital.

She is survived by three children: son, Tom Shaney and wife Leigh Shaney of Belmont, NC; daughter, Tammy Shaney and partner Lauren Grubbs of Greensboro, NC; son, Bill Nolen and wife Lisa Rivers Nolen of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Savannah, Sarah and Ryan Shaney. In addition, she leaves a sister, Barbara Whitaker and husband Joe of Penrose and sister-in-law Carie Talley of Charlotte as well as several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held January 18, 2014 at 2:00pm at Enon Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Talley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Enon Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 669, Pisgah Forest, NC 28768.
