Martin "Marty" Benedict

Brevard - Martin "Marty" Benedict, 90, died Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at Transylvania Regional Hospital.
He was born in China and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul Howie Benedict. He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Benedict and a brother, John Benedict.
He graduated in 1942 from Colgate University with a B.S. Degree and he served in the US Army. He was involved with Brevard Meals on Wheels, and Habitat for Humanity. He was the President of The Colgate Club of the Carolinas, a member of the Brevard Elks Club Chapter 1768 and Davidson River Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by one daughter: Helen and husband John Vermes of Coral Springs, Fl., one son: Craig and wife Nancy Benedict of Middletown, NY, a sister-in-law: Helen Naugle, five grandchildren: Andy and Jenny Vermes, John and Neil Eubank and Jennifer Fitzgerald, seven great grandchildren and two nephews: Bruce and Scott Benedict.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 1 pm at Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian Church with Rev. Keith Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
