Mary Jones

Connestee Falls resident Mary T. Jones passed away peacefully on Sunday after battling lung cancer for 10 months. Mary is survived by her husband, James M. Jones (Brevard, NC), her sons; Rusk L. Jones (Cumming, GA), Martin A. Jones (San Angelo, TX) and Christopher L. Jones (Mansfield, TX); her brother Theodore Thomas (Brandon, MS). Mary has 7 grandchildren; James Jones, Zachary Jones, Asa Jones, Matthew Jones, Trevor Jones, Sydney Jones and Olivia Jones and a niece; Elizabeth Thomas (San Francisco, CA)
Prior to living full time in Brevard, Mary and her husband lived in Cleburne, Texas for nearly 37 years. Mary was always active in Cleburne and Johnson County politics as both a reporter and photographer for The Johnson County News and the Cleburne Eagle. As an active member of the Johnson County Republican Women her passion for politics won her the respect of both her colleagues and members of the Democratic Party. Privately, Mary devoted countless hours to the Family Crisis Center as an advocate for battered women and children. After moving to Brevard full time nearly 8 years ago, Mary became an active volunteer with the local "victims assistance" group SAFE, located in Brevard, NC. Mary was member of St. Phillips Episcopal Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday December 19, 2009 at St. Phillips Episcopal Church, Brevard, NC at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to SAFE, Brevard, NC in her honor.
