Mary Peterson

Mary Lois (Price) Peterson passed away on Monday, April 11, 2011.
Born in Brevard on April 19, 1935 she graduated from Brevard High
School in 1953.

After graduation Lois worked for the Transylvania County Health
Department and attended Blanton's Business College in Asheville. She
married Abner Frank Peterson on September 1, 1956 and began the
largely unsung life of the military spouse. In the intervening years
she raised their three children. She also played a significant role
in the rearing of her four grandsons, up to the last six months of her
life.

Throughout her life Lois was involved in various religious education
programs, mostly as a Sunday School teacher. She also managed a
church day care center, assisted church secretaries, and maintaining
church libraries. She later served as a veterinarian assistant at a
practice in Brevard.

Mrs Peterson is survived by her son, Lt Col Bill Peterson, USAF
(Retired) of Montgomery, Alabama; two daughters, Kim Sumpter of
Madison, Alabama and Jo Linda Peterson Gibbs of Arden; and four
grandsons, Frank Sumpter and Henry, O'Brien, and William Edward Gibbs.
Lois is also survived by her sister Dorothea Jo "Dot" (Price)
Cundiff, formerly of Covington, Indiana but now living in Michigan.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Chief Master Sergeant Abner
Frank Peterson, USAF (Retired); her father, Philip Brooks Price, Sr;
her mother, Lela Montgomery Barnette Price; her brother Philip Brooks
"Jiggs" Price, Jr; and her sister Rebecca Myrticia "Becky" (Price)
Bever.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM, on Saturday, April 23,
2011 at the First United Methodist Church, 325 North Broad Street,
Brevard, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, please consider making
