McGregor "Greg" Summey Macfie

McGregor "Greg" Summey Macfie, 65, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010 at his home on Maple Street in Brevard.

He was born May 14, 1945 in Brevard, the son of Jefferys (Mose) Ashe Macfie and Rebecca Summey Macfie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Jefferys (Mose) Ashe Macfie Jr.

Greg was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Brevard. He graduated from Brevard High School in 1963 and Clemson University with a B.S. in Forestry in 1968. He enrolled again at Clemson University in 1973 to obtain a M.A. from the College of Forestry.

From 1968 to 1970, he was a First Lieutenant in the United States Army, Battery B, 7th Battalion, 29th Artillery. His personal declarations include the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal with "V" Device for exceptional heroism as a Platoon Commander in the Republic of Vietnam.

Following graduate school, he moved to Walterboro, S.C. and formed Edisto Forestry Products, where he served as president and forestry consultant. Throughout his career, he managed forest land for private interest groups as well as his own private land holdings in Eastern North Carolina and Piedmont South Carolina.

Greg is survived by a son, John Jefferys Macfie and wife Allison of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., a sister-in-law, Betty Macfie, of Greenville, S.C., a niece, Elizabeth (Ashley) Macfie Goodlett and husband Robert of Spartanburg, S.C., a nephew, Jefferys Ashe Macfie III, and wife Rebeckah of Greenville, S.C., and cousins, Spencer (Mac) Macfie Morrow and wife Veronica of Brevard, Mary Morrow Rose and husband Don, of Brevard, Eben S. Morrow and wife Janet, of Charlottesville, Va., John A. Macfie, of Penrose, James P. Macfie and wife Gail, of Little River, and Spencer M. Macfie, of Charlotte.

His service will be held on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Moore Funeral Home in Brevard. Burial will follow at Evergreen-Gillespie Cemetery on Country Club Road. A gathering of friends and family will follow at the American Legion in Brevard.
