Merton Kelsey Cade, 90, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 11, 2021. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Jean Elizabeth Cade, 2 daughters, Linda Kelsey Carrillo of Hendersonville and Lori Elizabeth Lamson and husband Jon of Southington, CT and 6 grandchildren: Anna, Alex and Andres Carrillo, Nick Richetelle, Abby and Kelsey Lamson.
Mert was born in Ivoryton, Connecticut to the late Arthur and Dorothy Cade. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers Weldon and Donald Cade.
He was a quiet child, studious and meticulous. He joined the army after graduating from high school and served in Japan and South Korea. After leaving the service, he went to Bentley College and studied accounting. He worked for Donnelly and Sons Co. in Old Saybrook for a few years until he had his own accounting firm established. He was an independent accountant until he retired in 1985. Upon retirement he enjoyed life in Connecticut and then moved to North Carolina where he lived in peace until he moved on into the afterlife.
Mert enjoyed listening to music, especially Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, reading and solitude in nature. He and his teammates held a bowling world record in 1967 and collected numerous other awards and trophies over the years.. Mert brought his family to Disney World in 1972 when it first opened. It was there he fell in love with Mickey Mouse and started an almost 50 year tradition of collecting Mickey Mouse memorabilia.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions a memorial service for Merton Cade will be held at a later date.
