Michael D. Haynes

Pisgah Forest - Michael D. Haynes, 63, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Transylvania Regional Hospital.

He was born on December 25, 1946 in Peoria, IL to the late Harold and Bernice Swingseth Haynes. He was also preceded in death by a son, Matthew John Haynes.

Surviving is his loving wife, Rose G. Dodd Haynes who is also known for her pet portrait art in and around Transylvania County; one daughter, Kathleen Ann Thill and husband Jack of Arvada, CO; two grandchildren, Preston and Athaya; two brothers, Christy Haynes and wife Paulette of Anderson, IN and Lynmore Haynes and wife Elaine of Minooka, IL; and one sister, Diana Haynes of Australia.

Mr. Haynes worked at Caterpillar, Inc. for 40 years, last working as an Engineer, retiring in 2004. He proudly served in the Marine Corp. in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Third Degree. He volunteered for the Pisgah Foresters and was an avid hiker.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Carl DelGiudice officiating. Everyone is invited to attend a reception immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
