Mildred McCall Owen

Mildred McCall Owen of Brevard passed away on July 22nd at the age of 96, after a blessed and full life. Mildred was born in 1927 in the Silversteen Community of Gloucester Township. She was a 1945 graduate of Rosman High school. She then moved to Brevard where she worked at the Cotton Mill, the Tannery, Pierce Moore Hotel, and Olin/Ecusta, each a part of Brevard’s storied history. She soon married the love of her life, Harold W. Owen, and started their family. They were married for 52 years. Mildred joined King Street Baptist Church in 1947 and was their oldest member. King Street grew and became Morningside Baptist Church which she served in every capacity possible over the years. She especially loved her role as bible school director and organist. Her faith was strong and deep. Mildred retired from Ecusta in 1982, where she worked for 30 years in the Endless Belt department.

She will be remembered by her family as a strong, supportive and loving Mom, Nanny, sister and aunt.

She is preceded in death by her husband Harold W. Owen, daughter Marsha Owen Dishon, parents Mack T. McCall and Ola Anders McCall and her siblings, Lawrence, Polly, Evonne, Ernestine, Hazel, and Elery. She is survived by her daughter, Caron Owen Surrett (Mike), her sister Rowena McCall Ashe (Paul), son-in-law Gerald R Dishon II, grandchildren Cristy Surrett Butler, Derrick Surrett (Valerie), Gerald R Dishon III and Estelyn Dishon Stanley (Justin), great grandchildren Jakob, Joshua, Liam, Norah and Tallis.

The family wishes to thank everyone at Cedar Mountain House, The Oaks and Sapphire Ridge who cared for her over the years, Pam, Dana, Lynn, Gage, Suzy, Candice. And a special thank you to Kayla from Care Partners who became her Little Debbie loving bingo partner.
