Mildred Wilkinson

Mildred M Wilkinson, age 84, of College Walk, Brevard, NC, died of natural causes at home with family by her side September 25, 2012.  She was born Mildred Estelle Moore on March 28, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Robert J and I Estelle Moore.



She grew up in Merchantville, New Jersey, attending Glassboro State College and Bryn Mawr Hospital School of Nursing.  In Wenonah, NJ, she met the young sailor Robert G Wilkinson with whom she fell in love, married and would eventually spend the   next 62 years as husband and wife.



Millie and Bob began their family in a suburb of Chicago and eventually had two sons and two daughters.  Bob's career transferred them to many states including Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Maryland, and Virginia.  Millie worked as a Registered Nurse in each place, moving from hospital nursing to the new field of occupational health nursing.  In 1982 Millie and Bob retired to a farm in West Virginia and in 1996 they moved to Sherwood Forest in Brevard where they lived until moving to College Walk in 2010.



A gifted musician, Millie played the piano at home for family sing-a-longs and in later years played the organ for church services.  She had a lovely singing voice and sang in church choirs, community choruses and for friends' weddings all her life.  She was a gracious hostess and conversationalist, known for her lovely table settings of fine linen and blue willow china.



A life-long Episcopalian, she was active in St Philip's Episcopal Church, working as president of the Episcopal Church Women and becoming famous as the "linen lady" at the Shop of St. Philip's.



Millie was a loving wife, mother and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.



She is survived by her husband, Robert G Wilkinson, Sr, four children R. Garwood Wilkinson, Jr (Lynne nee Kicklighter) of Otto, NC, Linda J Wilkinson of Centreville, VA, James H Wilkinson (Nancy nee Wagner) of Springfield, VA, Patricia Wojtaszek (Steven) of Littleton, MA, four grandchildren Suzanne Pearson (Michael), Erin Amann (Luke), Amanda Denzer-King (Ryan), Ryan J Wilkinson, and three great-grandchildren Liam Amann, Izaac Amann, and Sonora Denzer-King.



A service will be held at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, in Brevard, NC on Monday, October 1 at 2:00 pm.



Memorial contributions may be made to St Philip's Episcopal Church, 256 E Main Street, Brevard, NC 28712 or the Shriners' Hospital  for Children, 950 W Faris Street, Greenville, SC 29605.
