Minnie Lorene Scarborough Kenney, 91, of Penrose, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2019. A native of Arnoldsville, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Pascal and Mamie Elizabeth Hayes Scarborough. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert S. Kenney; her sister Mary Ida Gordon, and her son, Jack M. Kenney.
Lorene grew up learning the lessons of hard work as she picked cotton and then learned how to take care of a household at an early age which helped her to later become a great teacher of life-lessons. She loved tending to her vegetable garden and putting up vegetables.
Married to her husband Robert for 60 years, they owned Buddy’s Cash and Carry in the Calvert Community, where they knew everyone and loved being a part of the community. After retirement, they traveled to all but four of the continental United States.
Her survivors include her daughter, Barbara K. Russell, of Penrose; grandchildren Wesley Russell (Laura) and Kyle Kenney; great-granddaughter Brooklyn Elizabeth Kenney; and her sister Martha Louise Lillard.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 6 – 7 P.M. on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at Moore-Blanchard Funerals & Cremations in Brevard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a hospice of your choice or to the Fellowship Hall Fund at St Timothy United Methodist Church, 1020 Asheville Hwy, Brevard, NC 28712.
