Nancy Deaver

Nancy Welch Deaver, 90, of Brevard, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022. A native of Haywood County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Jenive Smathers Welch. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Jesse B. Welch and D. Joshua Welch.

Nancy attended Blanton’s Junior College where she earned an Associate’s Degree before going on to become a legal secretary and bookkeeper. She would later volunteer at Pisgah Forest Elementary School, where she enjoyed helping the children learn and grow. She was also a member of the D.A.R.

As a member of First United Methodist Church she cultivated a strong faith that was evidenced in her life and family. It was her love for her family, as a wife, a mother, a grandmother or “MaMaw” and great-grandmother that gave to her life’s greatest joys.

She loved traveling with her husband Gerald on motorcycle trips across the U.S. from New England to the Grand Canyon. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and caring for her family, doing for them in every special, or ordinary way that would somehow become special. She took great pride in helping to care for her grandchildren when they were young and was always quick with a smile or hug to all.

Her loving survivors include her husband 69 years, Gerald Deaver; their children: Denise Danos (Glenn) of Cedar Mountain; Dawn Brookshire (Jeff) of Brevard; grandchildren: Daniel Brookshire (Kristen) of Chapel Hill, Laura Brookshire (Earle Pope) of Raleigh; great-grandchildren: Rosalee and Elliott Brookshire and Emilia Pope; her sisters: Katie Kelly of Virginia, Ann Trice of Canton, and her brother, William J. Welch of Candler.

A Memorial Service honoring Nancy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Brevard with Rev. Mike Holder officiating.
