Nell Cairnes Loftis

Brevard - Nell Cairnes Loftis, 91, died July 30, 2010 at the Brian Center in Brevard. She was born in Transylvania County and attended Etowah High School graduating Valedictorian of her class. She was the daughter of the late Homer and Ann Hollingsworth Cairnes. The oldest of nine children, She was preceded in death by her four bothers and four sisters.

Mrs. Loftis was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Brevard, teaching kindergarten Sunday school and actively participating in United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Home Extension Club of Brevard.

Surviving are her loving husband of 65 years, Richard Marshall Loftis; daughter, Ann Wilkinson and husband Barry of Brevard; sons, Richard Edward Loftis of Brevard and Tony Loftis and wife Patricia of Brevard; grandchildren, Sarah Carpenter Hennessey, Marsha King, and Leanne Loftis; great grandson, Triston King, plus many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service is planned. A memorial service will be announced at a late date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Beulah M. Zachary Organ Foundation, c/o First United Methodist Church, 325 N. Broad Street, Brevard, NC 28712.
