Opha H. Merrill

Brevard - Opha H. Merrill, 103, died Friday, August 28, 2009 at Tore's Home.

A native of Cocke County, TN., she was a daughter of the late Allison and Martha Dawson Henderson and wife of the late Wm. Ernest Merrill, Ph.D. who died in 1981. They were married for 40 years.

Mrs. Merrill was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church, where she volunteered in the thrift store for many years and was an avid bridge player.

Surviving are her two sons: Ben Merrill and Marianne of Raleigh and Dan Merrill and wife Pam of Boynton Beach, FL., four grandchildren; Ben Merrill, Jr., Dan and Daniel Merrill and Jenny Williams, four great grandchildren; Boone and Jocelyn Williams, Logan Merrill and Ben Merrill, III, one nephew; Phillip Ramsay and a Special Friend, Pat Woodward of Brevard.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 12, 2009 at St. Philip's Episcopal Church with Rev. Robert Field officiating. A reception for the family will immediately follow the service in the fellowship hall.
