Patricia (Patty) Mozley Evans, executive director of Choristers Guild in Garland TX from 1987 through 1998 died on Sunday, November 22, 2015 after an extended struggle with Alzheimer's. Patty was born in Panama City FL and raised in Georgetown SC.
In 1958 she moved to Lake City, SC where she served as Director of Music and Christian Education at the Lake City United Methodist Church until 1981. She also was a founding director of the Carolina Academy where she influenced the lives of many children. Patty also served as the executive director of The Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts during her last years in Lake City. In 1981 she moved to Dallas Texas where she worked in church music and was Director of Student Life at the Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University until she began her 12-year tenure with Choristers Guild, a membership organization of church musicians and publisher of choral music for children and youth.
In 2006 she retired and moved to Brevard, living initially in Connestee Falls. She served for four years as Director of the Connestee Chorale. She became an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and served a short stint as interim director of music in 2007. She sang with the church choir and the Transylvania Choral Society. In lieu of flowers Donations in her memory may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 22 Fisher Road Brevard NC 28712, the Choristers Guild Helen Kemp Endowment Fund, 12404 Park Central Drive Suite 100, Dallas, TX 75251, and the Alzheimers Association, Western Carolina Chapter, Charlotte NC. The Endowment Fund provides scholarships for the Choristers Guild Institute where Patty was a fixture in recent years overseeing the book store.
She is survived by her husband Bill Johnson, her daughters Ann Martin and her husband John Martin of Woodstock GA, Marcia Leigh Stokes and her husband Jason Stokes of Columbia SC; her step daughters Donna Bailey and her husband Clayton Bailey of Rowlett TX and Brenda Masse and her husband John Masse of Garland TX; and five grandchildren, Evan, Nick and Chad Martin of Woodstock GA and Andilyn and Zephyr Bailey of Rowlett TX and She is also survived by her sister Marcia Worth Mozley Quinn, Hampton VA; and her brother William Reed Mozley of Georgetown SC.
A Service of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd; 22 Fisher Road (North Broad Street at Fisher Road) Brevard, NC 28712.The family will receive friends immediately following the service at a reception in the church Fellowship Hall.
