Patricia Mckendree

Patricia Evans McKendree, beloved wife and mother, and dear friend, went to be with her heavenly Father Saturday, August 26, 2017. Born in Washington, DC, she was she daughter of the late Robert Francis and Velma Irene Winters Evans. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter Caryn Patricia McKendree.

Pat was a resident of Brevard from 1964 to 1970, returning to stay in 1994. You could often find her enjoying a stream or waterfall with her family and friends. Her life was spent pouring into the lives of others - being a mother, mentor, helper, teacher, servant, faithful, loving wife.

For a period of over 15 years she cared for 76 foster children in her home, treating each one as though they were her own. Not many have the heart and stamina to do this work, but she wanted to do everything she could to make their lives better.

Faithfully serving in the nursery programs, teaching ladies Bible studies, and mentoring others, Pat invested in the lives of many through being active in her local church. She loved to learn and was an avid reader. These traits coupled with her love for children made her a natural teacher. Teaching elementary grades at Christian schools was her passion.

Pat continued to serve others by volunteering at Hospice in Transylvania County providing end of life support for patients and their families. After retirement, Pat and her husband enjoyed traveling and exploring the wonders and beauties of God's creation throughout North America.

Her loving survivors include her husband Bernard W. "Mac" McKendree; her daughter Jill Wickberg of Sanford, FL, and son Mark W. McKendree of Kansas City, MO; granddaughter Amy Wickberg of Sanford, FL; her sister, Myra Corbitt of Lilburn, GA; and brothers Robert Evans of Puyallup, WA and Wayne Evans of Kutztown, PA.

Funeral services for Pat McKendree will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Bethany Baptist Church in Brevard with Rev. Matthew Collier officiating. Interment will follow at Davidson River Cemetery in Pisgah Forest. The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM, one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Bethany Baptist Church, Building Fund, 135 Bert Lane Rd, Brevard, NC 28712.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Tore's Home for their outstanding care and compassion for "Mrs. Pat."
