Patricia Woodward

Patricia "Pat" Smith Woodward, 76, died July 24, 2012 at Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC.  She was born in Radford, VA on Dec. 31, 1935 to the late Dr. Richard and Nona Smith and graduated from Radford High School in 1952.  She earned a degree in Physical Therapy from Mary Washington College in 1956 and a certificate of Physical Therapy from Duke University in 1958.  She married the late Fred Woodward in 1963 and had resided in Brevard since 1982.



She loved her 40 year career of service as a Licensed Physical Therapist working in Virginia, Connecticut and North Carolina.  She retired from Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, NC in 1995.  She had been an active parishioner and choir member of St. Philips Episcopal Church in Brevard and a member of numerous civic and healthcare organizations including the Pilot Club International and the American Physical Therapy Association.



Pat was an avid sports fan particularly of Duke Basketball to the chagrin of her son-in-law, an UNC fan.   She loved gardening and growing things and was well known for her annual menagerie of summer flowers.



Pat is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jeff Walker and their daughters, Kayla, Kelsey and Anna Grace, of Etowah, NC; her son,  Fred Woodward of Atlanta, GA; 2 brothers and their wives, Tom and Norma Smith of Pembroke, VA and Dr. Richard and Mary Smith of Harrisonburg, VA; sister-in-law and her husband, Mary Ann and Grover Simpkins of Radford, VA; 9 nieces and 2 nephews and their families; her beloved cat, Katie; and 3 "grand" dogs.   She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed by her wide circle of friends and family.



A memorial service will be held at St. Philips Episcopal Church in Brevard at 3 PM on August 7, 2012 followed by a reception for friends.
