Paul Wexler Baynard, 86, of Penrose, passed away on October 15, 2021. A native of Brevard, he was the son of the late Ona Cliff and Minnie Pearl Norman Baynard. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his nine siblings and his son, Paul Franks.
A graduate of Brevard High School, he was also a pitcher for the baseball team and pitched Brevard’s first no-hitter. Before having the opportunity to pitch professionally, he was drafted and served in the United States Army. After serving in the Army he came back to Brevard and worked at Ecusta until his retirement forty-three years later. He was able to continue playing baseball, pitching for Ecusta in the Industrial League.
He enjoyed watching “his Duke Blue Devils” play football as well as the Carolina Panthers. He loved to fish, having fished in several tournaments; and he loved watching baseball, particularly the Cincinnati Reds.
His loving survivors include his wife, Gail G. Baynard; their children: Andy Baynard (Anna Maria Chavez), Darlene Burgess (David) and daughter-in-law Theresa Franks; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service for Paul Baynard will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. Funeral Honors will be provided by the North Carolina National Guard and the Transylvania County Honor Guard.
