Paul Hemphill

Paul Wesley Hemphill, 64 of Asheville NC and formerly of Brevard, NC, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Charles George VA Medical Center, Asheville, NC. A native of Transylvania County he was a son of the late Clyde and Mary Emma Stokes Hemphill. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Louise Durham Hemphill who passed away in 2004. He was member of Bethel "A" Baptist Church.
He was a Vietnam Veteran serving his country in the US Army.
Paul attended Brevard High School and graduated from Germantown High School in Phil., PA. He received his degree in culinary arts working in that field as a manager for McGuffey's, Inc. and then UNCA until his retirement.
He is survived by his fiancé, Sheila Simpson of Asheville; two sons: Darrell Durham and his wife Melinda of Candler, and Paul Anthony Hemphill of Asheville, one daughter; Marie Hemphill of Asheville, one god-daughter; Destiny Davis of Asheville, two sisters; Sherry Edington of Brevard and Mavis Hemphill Smith and her husband Richard of Brevard, 19 grandchildren, one great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Paul Hemphill will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday April 2, 2016 at Bethel "A" Baptist Church, with Rev. Spencer Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 PM prior to the service in the church. Burial will follow at Cooper Cemetery, Brevard. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard for Veterans of Transylvania County.
